Handicap +2.5 : -2.5
This is not the best tournament i had bettingwise, thus i remain reluctant to suggest something anticipating my bad streak and the fact that a lot of people might follow my picks almost blindly.
However, this is an offer i cannot refuse even if i lose badly i would take this bet anytime again. Firstly i cannot understand why Greece is offered as favorites here; in my view the only thing they are superior is the metal and character they have developed as a team through the last 15 years, winning championships and getting high ranks in most of the competitions they participated. But this team is a new team, an experiment if you like with a coach adopting a quite different philosophy than his predecessors, even though this is not yet transparent in the court. Logically Greece has some ups and downs, and obviously the lack of team leaders (and key players for this team) Papaloukas and Diamantides does nto help in this aspect. Overall, so far the impression is that they are quite ok but they might fall a little short no tougher games than the ones so far played. I don't rate the match against France as indicative since everybody wanted to lose there, but against Russia, the Greek team presented some difficulties in offense with big blanks in quarters and it was their character that led them to return in the game and make them competitive again. My point is that their are less trustworthy when compared to previous years, less offensive weapons, chemistry hasn't developed yet and above all they don't seem totally ready to die in the court, since everybody will understand if they fail to get in the semis given they are a new team.
Turkey impressed me seriously, i always though of them as a talented team but the anarchism in the way they were unfolded this talent in the court was their biggest drawback; this time Tanjevic seems to have found a solution, chemistry is definitely there and despite Turkoglou is still a shadow, the other guys (with Illyasova prevailing) are making up for this mediocrity. I expect Turkoglou to step up tonight, despite Kazlauskas has certainly prepared a defensive plan with help from the PFs, but even if the Turkish team starts badly they have shown that they will not leave the game alone.
All in all, a big derby expected, i would give more balanced odds in this one, i honestly do not understand the odds movement in the afternoon thus i will gladly invest some good units in the handicap, and also some units in the moneyline and under too. Apologies for the late preview. GL!
