Very interesting game tonight in the French league where Cholet hosts season sensation newcomer Vichy, in an important battle regarding the qualification to the “Semaine des As” (equivalent of Copa de Rey).

I must admit, I’m very surprised by the behaviour of this Vichy team, who’s lying 4th in the table with an impressive 8-4 balance. But Vichy built its success on a very strong defense, an impressive attitude at home where they beat Strasbourg and Asvel, but also they were a bit lucky to win away to struggling team such as Pau and Dijon who were really weak.

On the other hand, hosts Cholet is enjoying a great season, especially at home where they are still unbeaten. The team of Turkish coach Erman Kunter mainly focuses on a strong defense, but they are also effective offensively thanks to the young guys Tchicamboud and De Colo + Center Claude Marquis. Usually they like to impose their style at home where they are supported by a hot crowd.

So for this match I’ll go with the hosts to cover the spread. I still kinda think that Vichy got to come back to earth after such a torrid start. When I look at the match ups, Cholet has what it takes to take the Win: Steed Tchicamboud is a very strong defended and he will have to contain Jimmal Ball, Vichy’s PG. I really believe that this will be the key of the game, since Ball is the guest’s go to guy (16pts, 4ass). Nando De Colo should maintain his great form (he was ASG MVP) and create a lot of easy play, Marquis will want to dominate inside. Cholet is much more balanced and has a deeper bench. I also expect home court to be a great advantage in this game.
