Today I'm going in the Spurs minus the points, even being 5 points favored at home against Dallas. My choice has to be with the respect that I've for the Spurs and with everything they have done in the last decade and how they've built an amazing team step by step. With this I want to say that I would be extremely surprised if Dallas ends up winning this game one week after such a big trade. Kidd was traded for Dallas and with him just in Dallas for five games, a win at San Antonio tonight seems to be almost impossible for Dallas. Actually if we look to the team which were involved in a big trade lately, we see that the Lakers lost in their second game with Gasol at Atlanta, that Dallas lost in the first game with Kidd at New Orleans and that Cleveland lost in tough games against Milwaukee and Cleveland. The question is simple: it doesn't matter how good are the players. All of them need time to adapt to a new team, city, ambitions, etc...
In theory Dallas and San Antonio are similar teams and even in the standing they are close to each other. Even the number of turnovers per game is similar (12.3 Spurs vs 12.4 Dallas), but it's here which starts the edge for the Spurs. Dallas in the 4 games with Kidd has made 17 TO vs Hornets; 21 TO vs Memphis; 13 TO vs Wolves; 22 TO vs Bulls, in an average of 18.25 TO/game. With Kidd, shouldn't the team get better? Well, like I said they need time. Another strong factor is with Diop now in New Jersey, Dampier is the only solution Avery Johnson will have to try to stop Duncan. Also Ginobili is in amazing shape and he was the player of the week in the West and he will be decisive down the stretch, as his amazing shape will make the difference today.
I believe Avery Johnson will try to put a lot of pressure on Ginobili and if this happens, Duncan will have more space and with just Dampier to stop him, Dallas will too short of big men to stop Duncan. Parker has also comeback to the team and he has already put some nice performances and with him, the Spurs have all the pieces of the puzzle available. Both teams had two days to rest and it's curious to see that Dallas is 0-5 ATS in away matches after two days of rest, including a 1-4 SU being underdogs in those games. The Spurs have won 6 games in a row and 9 in their last 10 games and they are right now more solid than the Mavs. Take the Spurs in here.
